Awesome Session Tips!
(for an awesome session)
Solid colours and patterns work best; avoid distracting logos, text, graphics and patterns whenever possible.
Generally, dark socks and footwear are best, as white will draw attention from your face.
If you have fair skin, you should try to avoid wearing bright white, so that your skin doesn’t blend in with your clothing, and vice-versa – portraits look best when there’s significant contrast between skin and clothing.
Still not sure what to wear? Bring multiple clothes to the shoot and we can decide together! On any of my photoshoots, there are no limits on outfit changes, so knock yourself out (not literally)!
Choose a colour palate of one to three similar colours, and make sure that everyone in the group wears something from that colour palate.
Also, when choosing what to wear, think ‘simple’! Wearing very distracting patterns, such as flowers and stripes will draw the attention from what really matters – you! Instead, try wearing either solid clothing, or a non-distracting pattern (low-contrast plaid and low-contrast polka dots are examples of patterns that are easier on the eye).
Whenever possible, try to get your haircut done about two weeks in advance of your photo session.
Fresh haircuts rarely look their best the same or the next day! Allow some time to live with your new look before your portrait session!
When applying make-up, the ‘less is more’ mantra is key!
Generally, just cleaning, exfoliating and moisturising your face is just fine!
If you feel you just have to put on at least some makeup, try to keep it to a minimum. Keep in mind that your photos will last much longer than any current trend, so you may want to opt for more of a classic and timeless style. Besides, who needs heavy makeup when there’s Photoshop!
Finally, a tip which takes no effort at all!
Make sure to get a great night’s sleep before your shoot! Everything will go so much better that way, and we all know how great we can feel after waking up relaxed from a good sleep!
Above everything else, have fun!
Your photo session should be a time where you can ultimately forget about everything else and have a good time, and I’ll do everything I can to make that happen! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at any time!
